Spider-Man The Animated Series Episode 1
Night of the Lizard

First things first the images in this are used without permission from Marvel along with this review of the show.    Anything I say does not reflect the opinion of those who created it.

So this episode starts off with 2 guys in a subway tunnel who are dressed in orange coveralls. They’re obviously city mantainence workers. They start talking about stuff when a giant creature comes out. The same one in the picture above.  One of the guys gets dragged away by it. Then it focuses on the giant creature’s red eyes. The remaining guy goes up the ladder to the manhole and then jumps into the van they came in. The guy starts driving irradically while in shock from what happened. Spider-Man comes along and clings to the door of the van to try helping him. But the guy is too shocked to listen to him much. Then the guy almost drives off the edge of the cliff that leads to the ocean. The van slams into the water. But it turns out Spider-Man grabbed the guy before the van hit the water.
The guy keeps saying, “The eyes! They’re after me!” Spider-Man tells him to just make sure they don’t blame this on him. The next scene shows Peter selling some pictures to Robbie Robertson. He asks him if he can get some great pictures of the Lizard. Peter asks who he’s talking about. Then Jameson comes in and repeats the lizard and says that they’re running a story on him which includes the event I mentioned just before. Then the reporter Eddie Brock comes into the room and Jameson says that he’s going to cover the story.

Peter says he thinks this story about the story about the Lizard is just a big hoax. Then when Brock says it’s serious and he’s a good reporter Peter says he isn’t in a rather mean way. I’ll just say Eddie Brock in this is kind of like a cartoon version of Dick Thornburg from the first 2 Die Hard movies. He does act like a jerk through out this season. Right after that Jameson says that it’s no joke and that whoever gets a picture for the Lizard gets a $1,000 bonus. He also says Peter will go to the nearest Reptile expert Dr. Connors at Empire State University since he knows him. Eddie Brock of course makes a fuss about it but Jameson says to him there’s no point in him going since Peter already knows him and the fact he doesn’t know anything about the experiments or research Dr. Connors does.

We cut to Peter taking a bus home thinking he may buy a motorcycle or a car with the $1,000. But then he gets to his Aunt May’s house and she seems upset but doesn’t seem to want to tell Peter what it is. Then he goes to the top of a drawer in the hallway of the house and sees there’s a bunch of overdue bills. He decides he’s going to use the $1,000 if he gets it to help Aunt May out with the bills. I will say this is an actual plot point in the comics. Because she wants him to succeed in highschool and college she doesn’t want him to worry about the bad financial situation she’s facing since Uncle Ben’s death. Speaking of which we haven’t seen a flashback of that yet. That won’t happen til another episode.

Anyway, so he goes into the sewer entrance where the subway repair man was kidnapped and sees a picture of the Lizard’s foot print. Then we cut to him at his college of Empire State University. He is walking toward the entrance to one of the buildings there when a girl with blond hair wearing glasses comes up to him calling his name. Peter tells us it’s Deborah Whitman and that he doesn’t want to see her. For those who don’t know she was a woman Peter dated briefly after the death of Gwen Stacy in the comics. But they don’t really try to make her a love interest for Peter.

Anyway, Deborah asks him what he’s doing there since it’s night time but Peter tells her to leave him alone. She takes the picture in his hands away from him and starts talking about the footprint in the picture. Peter tells her he’s going to see Dr. Connors about it. So then they both go into a building where Dr. Connors might be. It then shows that Eddie Brock was following them. Yeah. He is going here just cause he can’t stand Peter getting a part of the assignment of the Lizard story. What a jerk! Also I’m pretty sure he could get fired and arrested if it turned out he was stalking 2 people to get a story.

Then Deborah and Peter go into a room where they think they see Dr. Connors. They can’t see him well and then hear whoever it is say, “No! Stay away!” Then they walk closer and see that it’s a giant Lizard. The lizard snarls at them and we get a close up of his Velociraptor like face. He has what both of them call the Neogenic recombinator. Peter lunges after him but gets swatted back. Then the Lizard leaps out the window. Peter gets up and goes to the window and is about to turn into Spider-Man but Deborah is saying not to leave him. He stays back and she compliments what he did was brave. He asks her if it was a compliment and she says not to push his luck. Peter comes to the conclusion that this Lizard thing kidnapped Dr. Connors.

Then we go to Spider-Man swinging through the city in the rain and he goes to a set of apartments where we meet Dr. Connors’ wife Margaret Connors and their son Billy. She is pretty alarmed at seeing Spider-Man illegally enter her home but he says he just wants to ask her about her husband. She says she doesn’t want him to hurt him.

Meanwhile outside Eddie Brock is listening on on this conversation. He just won’t give up will he? It’s funny how later on he blames Peter and Spider-Man for his own faults when the truth it’s because he has no ethics as a reporter. Kind of like Dick Thornburg in the Die Hard movies.

Well after they have this conversation they hear the Lizard outside along with the scream of Eddie Brock. Spider-Man goes out there and fights against the Lizard to no avail. He also tries to set up his camera to get a picture but drops it into a rain puddle. The Lizard just throws him into a nearby treehouse which is completely destroyed from Spider-Man getting thrown into it. He lands on some lumber. But he is fine of course cause proportionate strength of a spider.

Right after that the Lizard leaves and goes back into the sewer via a manhole cover on the road by there. Then Billy comes out and shouts, “No. Daddy! Come back!” Spider-Man is of course shocked by this. Martha then reveals that her husband Dr. Curt Connors is The Lizard. She says he used the Neogenic Recombinator to try and regrow his arm. But instead of doing just that it turned him into the Lizard. But she tells Spider-Man not to tell anyone.

Then Spidey hears someone still outside and sees that it’s Eddie Brock running off. He’s saying, “Alright! This story will give me the Pulitzer Prize!” Well Eddie Brock. In the words of Doc Ock on Spider-Man 2, “It isn’t about the prizes.” Seriously, he doesn’t even give Dr. Connors, Martha, or Billy a thought. Just, “Yay! A story of a guy that turned himself into a Lizard will give me a Pulitzer Prize!” Seriously! What a jerk!

Well luckily Spider-Man webs him to a lightpole so he won’t be able to go publish his story right away. He tells him that he won’t let him ruin Connors life. Then he starts swinging back to the Connor home. Unfortunately, Martha was kidnapped by the Lizard before Spider-Man could make it back. He tells Billy to go to a neighbor’s house which he does. Then he goes into the sewer to try and find the Lizard.

He eventually stumbles upon the missing subway worker from the beginning of the episode. He’s in a pipe covered by a grating. Spidey frees him. Turns out the Lizard kidnapped him to try and get him to fix the Neogenic Recombinator. He leaves him and finds the Lizard and his wife. The Lizard says he wants to make everyone into Lizards starting with her. But Martha tells him that’s not what she wants. But then Spidey swoops in and swing kicks Lizard into a wall. He also grabs the Neogenic Recombinator.

(I apologize for the small picture but I couldn’t find a better one of Spider-Man and Lizard fighting.)

The Lizard gets out of the wall and they start fighting. Lizard smacks his tail into Spidey knocking him to the floor. But this also sends the Neogenic Recombinator up into the air and onto a high pipe. But then the Lizard accidentally knocks his wife over in the fight with his tail. Realizing this he says he is sorry. Then Spidey gets up, grabs the Neogenic recombinator, and pushes him into the water with it. He ends up setting it off and he turns back into Dr. Connors though the beam from it also hits him. This is important to remember and I’ll explain later on in another episode. He pulls Dr. Connors out of the water and Martha wants to know if he’ll be okay. Spidey says yes.

Right after this we cut to Eddie Brock and Jameson the next morning going to the Connor house. Eddie is telling Jameson about how Dr. Connors is the Lizard. But Jameson doesn’t believe him and says Peter brought in photos of the Lizard already. Eddie says as they go up to the door of the house that if he’s wrong he’ll eat the next issue of the Bugle. So Dr. Connors opens the door and greets them. Jameson with that day’s Daily Bugle in his hand asks Eddie if he’d like it cooked, boiled, or raw.

Then Peter goes to his Aunt’s house and shows her the money he got for taking a picture of Spider-Man and the Lizard fighting. She of course starts lecturing him about how he shouldn’t have gone into the sewer to take pictures of Spider-Man and of course just like the original comics believes Spider-Man is a criminal. Then the episode ends with Peter narrating about how he’s Spider-Man and Aunt May won’t ever know that.

I will say this isn’t a bad first episode. We’re introduced to Spider-Man and his supporting cast really well. Lizard wasn’t a bad idea for a first episode either. Tune int next time when I go over the next episode.

Hey again. This episode starts off with some weird blond haired guy who looks rather old running down the street.  I’ll post it later cause the only picture I found on google was one from later in this episode.   We then cut to Peter dating a blond haired girl in a dress. We find out her name is Felicia Hardy. And in the comics she is a Cat Burglar who always has white hair and wears a black tights and a black shirt that reveal cleavage. But that doesn’t bother me that much. She and Peter are walking down the street talking. Peter wants to know if she can consider him his girlfriend but Felicia says no. She just wants him to be his tutor cause he knows more about science than she does. I like this. I actually wish there could’ve been more stuff like this in the movies.

But then suddenly Peter’s Spider sense goes off and he spots the guy mentioned above following them. He ends up running away from Felicia to turn into Spider-Man. He tries to follow the guy but suddenly he hears an explosion nearby. Some thugs with ski masks on have just robbed a store. Only one of them is armed. That guy has a rocket launcher. He tries to shoot it at Spidey but he dodges it. He takes out the other thugs first by just webbing them all up.   I am sorry but I couldn’t find pictures of this scene on google.

Anyway Yeah. That’s kind of a problem with this show. It was severally censored by parents groups. One of the things they demanded is that nobody on the show, even the cops, were allowed to have  real guns. They also didn’t want Spider-Man beating people up too much. Hence why he is just webbing everyone up straight up without punching or kicking them. It doesn’t bother me much since this cartoon is pretty fast paced. Somehow though they allow this guy to have a rocket launcher though I guess to be fair nobody is allowed to own one of those in real life anyway. It’s highly doubtful a kid is going to get a hold of a rocket launcher.
So he web grabs the Rocket Launcher away from the guy and webs him up. The police arrive and are glad they can now arrest these guys after the webbing dissolves. I don’t know about you, but I’d sure hate to have to sit around there for hours to wait for that stuff to dissolve and arrest the guys.

Anyway, he wonders who the guy was. But then when he goes to sell photos of Spidey stopping the Burglars to the Bugle. He gives the pictures to Robbie Robertson who compliments him. Jameson confronts Peter and wants to know how he always gets pictures of Spider-Man. Peter just makes up an excuse. Jameson says he’ll find out how he always gets pictures of Spider-Man. But then he sees the guy that was following him in Jameson’s office.

He decides to check it out as Spider-Man. ends up seeing the guy with Jameson in his office. Jameson has just paid the guy and it turns out his name is Mac Gargan. Jameson insults him and the guy gets mad and tells him to quit calling him names. Then Spider-Man swoops in and webs up Gargan to a nearby bookshelf causing all the cash he has to go flying all over the office.
Then he jumps onto Jameson’s desk and smashes a wad of papers. He says if Parker snaps another photo of him again that’s what he’s going to do to him only if he’s in a good mood. Then he tells him to get off his case.

This causes Jameson to have a flashback of a young woman who turns out to be his wife walking outside and then we a see a black car with a guy in a black mask wearing black driving by with a gun. Then we see a picture of him, his son, and his wife. He tells Spider-Man, “Yes.”

After he leaves Gargan complains about Spider-Man making him look ridiculous which Jameson replies he is ridiculous. But then he asks him if he’d like to get back at Spider-Man. He then looks at a picture he has of his wife and says what happened to her will never happen again. I actually love this origin for why Jameson hates Spider-Man. Believe it or not the actual explanation Stan Lee gave is that Jameson is jealous of Spider-Man. Yeah. I am not making that up.

Next we cut to Jameson and Gargan at a lab where they meet Professor Stillwell who will be shown to be the one who Peter went to see the exhibit where he was bit by the Spider that gave him his powers. I apologize for not finding a better picture of him.   Google doesn’t have much.   I never have any luck with other search engines.   Anyway, we see that there’s a scorpion suit that is entirely green (just like the original comics) set in front of a bunch of equipment. Stillwell comments that the suit looks good and Jameson says it better be since he spent a lot of money on it. Stillwell also mentions he’s doing an experiment with a Scorpion specifically cause it’s a predator of the spider.

So then they put Gargan in the suit which is too big for him and zap him with lasers which shoot radiation. Gargan then complains that radiation isn’t good and then he starts going a bit berserk. Jameson asks what’s going on and Stillwell comments that his DNA is undergoing a change that will give him the superpowers of a Scorpion. Then Gargan starts screaming. Then the scene ends.

Next we cut to Spider-Man swinging around complaining about his problems with school and with Felicia earlier in the episode. Then a helicopter containing Jameson and Scorpion comes zooming by and fights against Spider-Man on a ledge of a building. But then Spider-Man manages to climb to the roof. Scorpion follows and then ends up picking up Spidey and throwing him into a water tower that’s conveniently on the roof.

It gets water all over the roof and Spidey is knocked out. Scorpion has a radio communicator on him so that Jameson can communicate with him. Jameson is telling him to unmask Spider-Man but then Scorpion suddenly gets a glimpse of what he looks like now and goes berserk once again.

He goes after the helicopter Jameson is in. It almost loses control but the driver regains control then tells Jameson who is yelling at him that he’s going back to base and he can fire him if he wants to. But that he has a family to think of. We cut to the Bugle where Jameson meets Robbie in his office and Robbie tells him a monster is wreaking havoc on the city. Jameson sees a TV screen of this and get on his hands and knees and declares, “What have I done? This is all my fault.” Robbie asks him how it’s his fault.

He says he created it. Then says that years ago when he was a reporter he was threatened by a mob boss not to do a story. But he wouldn’t back off the story. The mob boss ended up hiring a man in a black mask to kill his wife. Ever since then he has tried not to do things that would hurt people. Robbie then tells him he needs to stop this. He says he knows and that he will. I will say this is pretty dark stuff for a kid’s show especially one that was severally censored.

We then cut to the Scorpion who has gone back to Stillwell where he asks him to turn him back into a human. Stillwell says that it’s too late and says he never should’ve done the experiment. He says Dr. Connors was right. Neogenics is too dangerous to experiment on a person with. That is what he used and it’s the same thing the Lizard used in the last episode. Scorpion pushes Stillwell onto the floor.

Then Jameson walks in and Scorpion grabs him and kidnaps him. He breaks a hole through the building they’re in and jumps off onto another building. Then we cut to Spider-Man with his mask partially off talking to his Aunt May. He says he will be home late. Then she says she hopes he’s not catching a bug. He says, “I certainly hope so.” Then he says he didn’t mean anything by that last comment and tells her he will see her tonight.

Then he suddenly sees Scorpion holding Jameson and makes a joke about how he can’t believe it. So he follows them to Oscorp. Which hasn’t been mentioned yet. It’s the company Norman Osborn owns. He’s not in this episode though. We then cut back to Scorpion who tells Jameson he’s going to use radiation at Oscorp to turn him back to normal.

He goes to a lab where there’s a nuclear reactor. He starts up a machine and then Spider-Man comes swooping in. Scorpion manages to grab Spider-Man and bear hug him. Jameson then headbutts him to make him drop Spider-Man which he does. He asks him why he did that to which Jameson says that he’s a bigger menace than Spider-Man and that Spider-Man maybe the only one who can stop him.

Spider-Man regains himself and tells Jameson to hit the red button on the console in the room. He tries to but then Scorpion comes up and asks him what he’s doing. He tries to explain that if he does this it’ll blow up the entire city. Scorpion being crazy says he doesn’t care as long as he’s cured. Jameson starts insulting Scorpion and calls him names.
Scorpion squirts acid out of his tail which disintegrates a part of the control console which is now sparking a bit. Then tells him he told him not to call him names again. This gives Spider-Man an idea.

He starts insulting him by calling him a no account second rate sewer baboon with the brains of a pigeon and the face of an eel. This make him angry and he falls for the trick and sticks his tail into the hole int he console which electrocutes him until he lies uncounscious on the floor. He then tells Jameson that he guesses they are even now and can be friends. Jameson says no and that he will not stop til he’s unmasked.

We then cut to Peter walking home and Felicia stops in her red convertible and tells him that she can take that she talks too much and can handle that. Peter then asks her to dinner and she says no but maybe lunch. Then she says goodbye and drives off. Wait! If she has her own car why did she need him to walk her home at the beginning? I guess doesn’t drive a car. Anyway this isn’t too bad an episode and it is very entertaining.  I couldn’t find very many pictures for this episode and I apologize.

Episode 3 The Spider Slayer
This episode starts off with Spider-Man swinging around and landing on a building. He comments this is a good place to stop and think. When suddenly these 3 giant looking satellite things which is circular with a blue outer circle with a with another yellow circular object on top with a red circular light inside of it which I just realized looks a lot like H.O.W.E.L from 2001 a Space Odyssey. I don’t know if John Semper and the animators did that on purpose. His spider sense goes off right when they appear and he wonders what danger they pose. He starts swinging around trying to avoid them then we cut to some young white guy with brown hair along with an older white guy. This is Allistar Smythe and his father Spencer Smythe. We cut back to Spider-Man getting chased and see a POV shot of what Allistar and Spencer are seeing which is a red square targeted on Spider-Man. Something kind of interesting Stan Lee created Spencer Smythe in the comics but his son wasn’t created til well after Stan Lee left.

Anyway, He swings onto the roof of a nearby building and manages to web one of them up to a tower on the roof. The satellite starts swinging round and round til it explodes right as he swings away. He then takes care of the other 2 by swinging away from one and then timing it just right so he can use his spider agility to make the 2 remaining satellites crash into each other.

It then cuts to Spencer and Alistar Smythe who are with Norman Osborn who complains that these satellites were a failure. They argue they aren’t and that with their technology they can now capture Spider-Man. We then see the giant Spider slayer which looks like a giant robotic Spider. It’s legs are red with a black body except for a tiny part of the back being red. It does look cool. They say it’s called the Black Widow (whether they intentionally named it after the Avenger I don’t know). We then cut to the Bugle where Jameson is talking to Felicia Hardy about some charity ball that her mom wants Jameson to throw for her and everything he needs to do.
She ends up mentioning her mother wants a photographer there to which Jameson complains he’s going to need some charity if he spends anymore money on this thing. But then Robbie tells him it’s all for a good cause and that they have a photographer who they can pay cheaply. Then we have Peter outside with photos of the Satellite things that we saw at the beginning. He is pondering who is behind them when Robbie come sin and tells him Jameson wants him. Felicia is happy to see Peter and Jameson is weirded out that she knows Peter. She tells Jameson they go to college together.

Anyway it’s decided that he’s the photographer. We then cut back to Alister, Spencer, and Norman. Spencer is working on the spider slayer robot and points out that there’s only one vulnerable place on it. But that it’s ready to go after Spider-Man. Then suddenly Eddie Brock appears and thanks Spencer for allowing him in on this story. We then cut to Norman coming into a dark room where he meets a figure that asks him if anyone suspects if he’s involved. He says no. It turns out to be Wilson Fisk/Kingpin who goes on about how Spider-Man is costing him his lively hood since he’s going around stopping the criminals that work for him. He then tells Norman that if the Spider-Slayer doesn’t work out he gets Norman’s Company. I will say I like Kingpin on this show but they used him too much to the point where a lot of the other villains on the show ended up becoming his lackeys. We’ll get to that later.

We then cut Harry Osborn and Flash who are wearing suits talking as they walk into the party Felicia is at that was mentioned earlier. Harry tells him there’s something going on at his Dad’s work that night and he wouldn’t tell him about . And also that he never does talk at all about his job much to him. Then Felicia comes up and says that she doesn’t want to hear them talk about work. She then takes Flash and talks to him a bit then dances with him. But then Peter arrives with his Aunt May.

Aunt May says to Peter he should’ve brought Mary Jane who I didn’t mention was someone Aunt May wanted him to date in the last episode. I didn’t mention it cause it kind of slipped my mind. Anyway, Flash says it’s lame that Parker brought an old woman to the party but Felicia says she thinks it’s cute he brought an old woman. She goes up to him and he introduces his Aunt May to her. Then she grabs Peter and dances with him. Flash complains about this to Harry and then he says he’s going to pull a prank to scare Peter by dressing up as Spider-Man. So he goes downstairs and outside to the trunk of his car. He puts on the suit and goes back up there. He enters the party in the costume. Peter and Felicia are now kissing each other when Peter’s Spider Sense goes off. Spider-Man/Flash goes up to where Peter. Peter immediately says it’s an impostor to which Felicia asks, “How do you know that?” Then he says, “You’re right. It probably isn’t.” Smooth one Peter.

Anyway Spider-Man/Flash threatens Peter and tells him he hates the pictures he takes of him. He then tells him to say what he says when Flash suddenly sees the Spider Slayer at the window and screams. Peter screams in a really low and comedic tone. It sounds funny. Anyway, then the Spider Slayer which had spotted Flash in the Spider-Man costume crashes through the roof. Peter immediately rushes off to get Aunt May to a safe location. Then turns into Spider-Man. Felicia is yelling at the Spider Slayer that it has no right to be there. This made me LOL!

Spidey comes in and rescues her. He comes back from where he took her too late. It’s found Flash dressed as Spider-Man and takes him away. We then cut to where Allistar Spencer, and Norman have taken Flash/Spider-Man. Eddie Brock is there too for his report. Eddie Brock starts his news broadcast. We then cut to Jameson and Aunt May watching TV at the party. We see the screen of the TV and Brock unmasks Spider-Man and of course it’s Flash. Aunt May is shocked a bit and says that’s one of Peter’s classmates. Jameson doesn’t believe a kid could be Spider-Man. Then the real Spider-Man enters the room. Jameson complains about it and then says that now Brock has made him and his entire news organization look like Jerks. Spider-Man says it’s not hard since he runs a tabloid. Jameson is angry but then Aunt May points out someone needs to save Flash Thompson. Spider-Man of course leaves and as he’s swinging to find Flash and the Spider Slayer/The Black Widow. He points out the irony that he has to save the guy who hates Peter Parker.

Anyway we then cut to the scene where Eddie is broadcasting and a bunch of armed men come in and he asks them what they want. One of them points at Flash in the Spider-Man costume and says, “Him.” Spencer asks Norman who these men are and he claims he doesn’t know. Then one of them says they have to take Spider-Man/Flash or the Kingpin will have their heads. Spencer is even more upset and tells Norman he trusted him. Then another takes away the camera from the camera man Brock has and Brock complains, “Hey! You can’t do that! I’ve got 2nd Ammendment rights!” to which one of the guards says, “We just amended them.” I have to admit that’s funny. I have never been interviewed by a news reporter but if they bothered me about some story I was involved in while I was working or something I would want to destroy their camera if they filmed me without asking me first.

Anyway, they go up to him to take him away and Flash is scared out of his mind and telling them he’s not really Spider-Man. They just tell him to shut up. Flash then tells them to let him go. Then the real Spider-Man comes in and tells them to do what Flash said. He takes out the guards and then the remaining guards say they have to get the real Spider-Man but they get webbed up before they can.

Norman is taking Allistar outside and tells Spencer he has to stay so Spider-Man can be destroyed since that was the deal. Spencer activates the Black Widow and tries to use it to kill Spider-Man. Spidey swings onto a wall but the widow sprays stuff that makes him unable to stick to the wall. He then tries riding it and succeeds. But then Spencer spots Flash with his mask on and thinks it’s really Spider-Man. Spider-Man throws some webshooters into a hole on the Spider-Slayer’s back (sorry I keep switching back and fourth on the name of it) to gum up it’s propulsion system. It works and the widow ends up falling into a vat of acid which disintegrates it.

Spider-Man of course jumps off and goes up to Flash. Flash says he is sorry for impersonating him and says he wished he would be brave like him and admits he was a coward. He also asks him not to tell Peter or Felicia. He takes him back to what’s left of the party. We then cut to Norman and Allistar as the entire building has now blown up with Spencer inside of it. Allistar is shocked. He’s turned back into Peter and is now seeing Flash getting yelled at by Felicia who calls him a dolt. When Flash calls her Felicia she tells him to call her Miss Hardy. He then says, “Forget it.” Then goes by Parker and pushes him out of his way. Then Felicia yells at Peter and says he was a coward for running away and that Spider-Man had to save her. Though she did confront the Spider slayer like an idiot so it’s her own fault she had to get rescued by Spider-Man. Then we cut to Jameson who complains this is gonna cost him a million bucks to repair. He then goes up to Eddie Brock who has just walked in and tells him he’s a mockery of his network and that they’re being made fun of by every network including Fox. Funny joke since Fox is who aired this cartoon originally. He fires Eddie who is very angry.   Peter goes up to his Aunt May and tells her he’s sorry she had to see all this. She then replies she doesn’t regret it cause it was all very exciting.

We then cut to Allistar Smyhe who is on a hillside somewhere. Kingpin comes up and tells him his father was an associate of his and makes him an offer to work for him to build a bunch of Spider Slayers to kill Spider-Man who he says is responsible for his father’s death.

Spider-Man Season 1 Episode 4 Revenge of the Spider Slayer

I admit I am rushing through this episode cause it isn’t my favorite and I want to start writing my review of the later episodes after this that are my favorite. I admit I am not such a fan of the spider slayers though most people probably wouldn’t list them among their favorite villains much less Allistar or Spencer Smythe.

So we start with Spider-Man/Peter with his mask off only the part where his mouth is talking on a payphone to Aunt May. She is once again saying for him to take out her neighbor Anna Watson’s niece. He actually agrees out of annoyance so she will stop bothering him about it. Then suddenly a spider slayer shows up. He lures to to a roof nearby that has a satellite tower on it. He uses one of the satellites on it to shut down the spider slayer. But suddenly there’s another spider slayer on the ground to his left. It is trying to destroy the tower.

He jumps off and swings to the ground below where a woman and her little daughter are. Her daughter is also holding a puppy. The little girl says she wants the spider slayer. But then the puppy jumps out of her arms and runs up to the spider slayer. It starts barking at it. The woman runs up and grabs the dog. Then Spider-Man swings in on a web and swings her to safety. He tells her to get out of there.

Then the other spider slayer has come back on and he is screwed. But he throws a spider tracer on both of them. The one behind ends up shooting out grappling hooks that bind him then it releases a bunch of green narcotic gas. Yeah. Yeah. Narcotic gas is always green in every episode. I have no idea why it’s always green though but it is. Probably cause it saves the animation team time.

Anyway we see the 2 Spider Slayers going into what looks like the Empire State Building which will always be used for the Kingpin’s headquarters. Anyway, we then cut Allistar making the spider slayer set Spider-Man on a hospital table. The table has metal plates to bind his arms and legs. It also ends up standing up so Spider-Man is facing Smythe. Then Allistar calls J. Jonah Jameson. After that we cut to Jameson who comes in blindfolded with a Kingpin guard pushing him forward. Jameson walks up to Spider-Man and is about to unmask him when the spider slayer shoots grappling hook at Jameson’s hand. Then Jameson gets put into the same kind of hospital bed in the same position. He tells them their vendettas against each other are what led to his father’s death. He then tells them that both of them, Flash Thompson, Eddie Brock, and Norman Osborn are all going to die at his hands. He then undoes their arm plates and attaches other plates which are both connected to a bomb.

Jameson says a lot of that is his own fault and that he should kill himself with a bomb. Wow! I can’t believe they allowed that line! Anyway, then Allistar knocks them out with more green gas. They both come to and are now on a building still attached to each other and the bomb. He tells Jameson they both have to go so he can save the other people Allistar is targeting with the spider slayers. Jameson throws a conniption fit about how he’d rather just sit there. But Spider-Man lifts him up with his free arm and then tells him they’re going whether he likes it or not. They swing away with Jameson screaming bloody murder.

We then cut to Flash talking with Felicia Hardy in front of the entrance to the university. Harry comes out and asks Flash how it’s going and Flash tells him to leave. Then the spider slayer arrives. Felicia asks if this is a prank. He says no it isn’t and tells her to run. He gets nabbed by it’s grappling hook but Spider-Man and Jameson arrive and Spidey undoes Jameson’s arm plate by melting if off with a laser the spider slayer is using. The spider slayer lets go of Flash and tries to deal with Spider-Man. Meanwhile Jameson tells Flash to come with him to make some calls. He fights the Spider Slayers for a bit until they leave to go to Oscorp. He then rushes off after them to Oscorp to try and save Norman Osborn from the Spider Slayers.

So we cut to Norman Osborn who is informed by Jameson that Spider Slayers are on their way to kill him. Norman then makes a call to security to deal with the Spider Slayers that are coming. The way he acts it’s like he knew this was going to happen. Then again there was the thing in the previous episode where Kingpin tells him he gets control of his company if Spencer’s Spider Slayers fail to kill Spider-Man. So that’s the answer I guess.

So it turns out security is actually a bunch of robot tanks. They’re about as useful at stopping the Spider Slayers as your 2 year old would be at helping you with a 1,000 piece puzzle. Yeah. They all just get blown up. None of their laser weapons even put a dent in the Spider Slayers. Well to make a long story short when the robots all get blown up Norman drives away frantically from the Spider Slayer. His car gets hit from the Spider Slayer. Spider-Man swings him to safety. Spider-Man uses the Spider Slayer’s laser once again to undo the bomb off his wrist. He puts it on the Spider Slayers which are now all connected together and they blow up and fall into the river.

We cut to the Kingpin’s hideout where he tells Allistar who is of course really upset that his Spider Slayers are destroyed, that he has to work for him until they destroy Spider-Man.
Then we cut to Peter in his room at home sewing up his costume. Then Aunt May calls him to tell him Mary Jane will be here any minute to see him. He then tries to say that he’s sick but Aunt May tells him it wouldn’t be right to have Mary Jane come over here to see him if he’s sick. The door bell rings and it’s Mary Jane. Peter answers the door and is shocked to see that Mary Jane is so pretty. He asks, “You’re Mary Jane?” to which she says her classic line from the comics, “Face it, Tiger! You just hit the Jackpot!” Well this episode was worth watching but it’s not my favorite. Though it was cool seeing that classic scene from the comics at the very end. Also I want to say this was a the first cartoon to have Felicia Hardy and Mary Jane as his love interests. Most of the previous cartoons only used Betty Brant as a love interest. The show Spider-Man and his Amazing friends had Peter dating Fire Star. But this was the first to use a love interest besides Betty Brant.

Menace of Mysterio

So the episode starts with an old newspaper blowng across a museum at night.   Classic way to start off an episode.   Then we see Spider-Man inside the museum or someone who looks like him smashing into some exhibits and stealing them.   A guard sees him and sets off the security alarm.    Then he goes and gets some other guards to the scene.  Spider-Man webs them up.   Then he crawls into a vent and then back down just to show off.

We then cut to Peter Parker waking up to his bedroom phone ringing.   It’s MJ who asks a science question to which Peter answers her.   Then she suggests that they  study together Friday night then go see a movie.  He stutters and MJ says, “This is where you are supposed to say yes I’d love to help.”   He tells her yes and he jumps into the air and then falls off when he catches onto the ceiling fan.   Good thing Aunt May didn’t hear him fall cause that would be awkward.

Peter comes down into the kitchen with Aunt May and tells her Good morning.  She says good morning back and tells him she just saw on TV Spider-Man robbed a museum.   It shows the images we saw earlier.   Peter says it has to be an impostor and of course Aunt May goes on about how she never could understand how anyone could think Spider-Man is a hero just like the original comics where she subscribes to the Daily Bugle.    Peter tells Aunt May he has to go to work.

We then cut to the museum we saw earlier with Peter coming up to J. Jonah Jameson who has a TV crew ready for him to speak.   He asks Peter why he doesn’t have any photos of what Spider-Man did there.    Peter just says sorry to which Jameson says that sorry doesn’t sell newspapers and criticizes him for not being a better news man.   Then Jameson starts his press conference which of course Peter doesn’t want to hear.   He goes into the next room which is dark and empty and notices some webbing on the ceiling.   He climbs up there and grabs it.   He’s about to leave with it when a black lady in a purple dress stops him.  She says she is Terry Lee of the NYPD.   She will be a supporting character in future episodes.

Anyway, she asks him what he’s doing and he mentions that he found some webbing.  She says that’s tampering with evidence.   He points out that Spider-Man’s webbing usually dissolves after a few hours but that this has been here all night.  Terry Lee says maybe he made a new formula.   Then she takes away the webbing from him and enters it into evidence.

Then  a bunch of smoke appears out of nowhere and Mysterio appears just as above.   He says his name is Mysterio and that he means no harm to anyone and he says he wants to capture Spider-Man.   Jameson of course takes a liking to the guy.    Then the guy disappears and there seems to be an explosion coming from the ceiling along with rubble falling.   It turns out it was an illusion and Peter comments he should’ve known it was fake since his Spider-sense didn’t go off.

We then cut to Peter taking a bus home when a news report comes onto a radio nearby that Spider-Man is robbing the mall.   Peter asks the bus driver to stop and goes off to investigate.   He swings into the mall and sees the other Spider-Man who seems to disappear past a corner.   Then Mysterio appears in front of everyone and Spider-Man confronts him that he is responsible for the fake Spider-Man.   Mysterio tells him he’s the fake and that he ruined him.   He says to meet him at the Brooklyn Bridge and even seems to have a yellow brick road appear and says to follow it  out a hole in the wall.

He tries to follow it and of course the wall is intact.   He goes to the bridge and there is Mysterio.   He sends a bunch of yellow rays at him which causes him to fall off the side of the bridge.   He grabs ahold of the wall and sees rubble coming at him and thinks it’s fake.   It’s not and he falls into the water below.

Some helicopters go searching around for Spider-Man around the water and don’t find him.   They assume he’s dead.   Then Peter goes home and turns on the TV to see Jameson saying Mysterio is a hero and now Spider-Man is fishfood.   Then MJ calls and tells Peter they’re through cause he didn’t show up for the date.   Then Peter gets angry and throws his suit away saying he isn’t going to be Spider-Man anymore.

Then the door bell rings and Peter yells to Aunt May he’ll get it.  He opens it and it’s Terry Lee.   She says she thinks Spider-Man is alive and that he’s been framed.   He says he’s not interested in helping Spider-Man.   She tells him he is a jerk for not wanting to help him and that it’s too bad some of his character didn’t rub off him when he was taking pictures of him.   Then she leaves.

Then Peter thinks about what she says and starts thinking to himself about what happened to Uncle Ben.   We get a flashback of Peter as Spider-Man being a wrestler and then him not stopping a thief that was nearby by him on the advice of a cop after the match.   Then he goes home to find the police there and a cop tells him is Uncle died and that that the punk’s been chased to a warehouse.   Then of course him going to said warehouse and catching the masked crook.   And of course him being the same guy who he didn’t stop before.   Then we cut to Peter looking at a photo of Uncle Ben.  He also says Uncle Ben always used to say that with great power comes great responsibility.  This is the first time this flashback has been used but it’ll keep being used through out the entirety of the show many times.

So then he decides to turn into Spider-Man and catches up to Terry Lee in her car.   We then cut to the police station where he tells her Mysterio said he ruined him at the Brooklyn Bridge.  She looks up incidents involving Spider-Man on the Bridge.  There seems to be quite a few when she says there was a helicopter crash there.   Then Spider-Man remembers coming onto an accident on that bridge where they were filming explosions  and a helicopter flying away from them.  The explosions were too big and hit the helicopter. Spidey rescued the pilot.   The special effects guy used an unauthorized  mortar that and ended up causing the huge explosion.   Spider-Man caught the guy who of course said, “I’ll get you for this.”      Then  they find out the guy’s name was Quentin Beck and his address is at Wonder Studios.

We then cut to Jameson getting a fax from Spider-Man in his limo that says Mysterio lives at Wonder Studios.    Then we cut to Spider-Man entering said Studio where he finds pictures of himself on a  wall.   Along with a Spidey suit with suction cups on the feet of the costume.   He also finds some cubes which he touches to find images of rubble coming down on him which is what he used at the museum.   We then cut to Terry Lee driving up.   Then cut to Spider-Man who finds what he thinks is Mysterio which turns out to be a werewolf robot.   He calls out to Beck to tell him he is getting tired of these fakes.  Then the whole floor rises up in a circular shape and spins around and around.

Then we see Jameson coming up to Terry Lee who is trying to get a door open.   Terry tells him to get lost and Jameson of course tells her that he has influence and can make her walking a beat.    She suggests maybe he can help her open the door and Jameson walks up to the door and tears it right open.

Then Spider-Man is confronted by a giant T-Rex who he guesses is a robot and so he jumps into his mouth.  He is right and we see the entire metallic structure of the robot T-Rex.   He finds a way out of it but then lands on a giant web.   Then Mysterio reveals that he has captured Jameson and Terry Lee in a net that is several feet off the ground next to Spidey.   Spidey tells them they have nothing to do with this and to let them go.   Then he says but he can keep Jameson to which Mysterio yells, “Enough!    You ruined my life.”   Then Spidey points out he did it all himself.   Then Mysterio says that’s what his psychiatrist said but doing this makes him feel really good.   Spider-Man manages to get himself free and then he gets off the giant web.   Then jumps off and grabs the net Jameson and Terry Lee are in.   He puts them safely on the ground.  Then a bunch of Mysterios are all around Spidey and he uses his spider sense and gets the right one.   His bowel comes off his head and we see Quentin Beck.

Terry has freed herself of it and Jameson is complaining that he needs to get out of the net.   Then the scene ends and we cut to Peter Parker sitting outside his college campus.   Mary Jane comes up to him and asks him what she and Spider-Man have in common.   Peter guesses they both look good in skin tight outfits.   Mary Jane says no.   It’s that they haven’t been acting like themselves lately.   She mentions she studied hard for her test and passed it.   She then asks Peter to walk her to class.

This was a pretty good episode.   Mysterio was done well as was Terry Lee and of course Jameson was funny too.   Next week we get into one of my absolute favorite Spider-Man villains, Doctor Octopus.

Spider-Man Episode 6 Doc Ock Armed and Dangerous

Finally we are on the episode that features one of my favorite villains Doctor Octopus.   The episode starts with Spidey on the train thinking to himself that he finally has a date with Felicia Hardy.   Though he says he’s still just her tutor.  He swings off the train onto the ground where he takes his clothes out of his web sack and puts them on.   He comes onto a large wall with a gate.   He presses a button on an intercon next to the gate and says who he is.   The gate immediatly opens.  Then he goes through the gate and comments that her front lawn is the size of central park.   A guy in a cart stops and gives Peter a ride to the mansion.   He goes in and meets Felicia and she says she needs to go get a jacket.  Right after that he hears her screaming and rushes upstairs to her room.   She is in the hands or tenticles of Doc Ock.   He tells him to let her go.  But he just uses a tentacle to knock Peter back into a bookshelf.

Then we cut to Peter telling an FBI agent about what happened.   The FBI Agent doesn’t believe him.   He also makes fun of him for saying it happened.   I will admit that is pretty dumb considering the characters introduced in other episodes.   A mutant Lizard, a Mutant Scorpion, a bunch of giant Spider Robots, and a guy who can seem to cast illusions to fool everyone into thinking something dangerous is happening  all seem just as bizarre or even more so then a guy with robotic arms.

Anyway then they look at the note Doc Ock left and then Mrs. Hardy walks in.   When they say the ransom note is from Doctor Otto Octavius Mrs. Hardy talks about how they had financed some of Doctor Octavius’ work but weren’t impressed with it so they terminated the grant they gave him.

Peter then thinks to himself that he knows Octavius from science camp years ago.  We then get a Flash back of Peter as a kid getting taken to the camp by Uncle Ben and they meet Octavius and then it shows Peter in a lab doing an experiment that blows up in his face.  The other kids there laugh at him but Octavius says mistakes are a part of science and it’s about using your skills to help mankind.   Of course this man is now a crazy lunatic who will end up doing some terrible things and not feel bad about them.   But that’s why I love Doc Ock.  He’s this evil mad scientist who plans these great crimes but he acts like a jerk we can love to hate.   That’s the way a lot of great villains are.

We cut to Felicia and Doc Ock in a warehouse of some kind.  She is tied to a pillar in the warehouse.   She tells him she never did anything to him.   He then goes into his backstory about how he created a Fusion powered battery and how none of his colleagues were impressed.   He is doing this work with the robotic tentacles I mentioned earlier.  Felicia’s mother was impressed and financed his work but didn’t like that he didn’t get the results fast enough so she fired him.  He ended up having to work in a miserable basement and ended up in an explosion with his extra arms attaching to him permanently.   He then says that he will have his revenge and laughs.

Anyway then we cut to the building where Jameson does a report on TV.  We saw him doing this in the last episode I reviewed.   This actually was something they did in his very first appearance in the comics though for some reason right after his first appearance it’s never done again.Robbie reminds him to keep his cool.  Jameson says he will.    Anyway Jameson is asking Doc Ock on the air to state his demands and they will cooperate.    Then Doc Ock calls on the phone and demands $1million in cash in a suit case.

Jameson then proceeds to get angry and make threats at him which causes Doc Ock to get mad.   While Jameson is yelling at him Peter remarks sarcastically to himself, “Jameson.   The great communicator.”    Doc Ock ends up telling Jameson he will deliver the ransom money and gives him the address.

We then cut to Jameson at the warehouse with Spider-Man there above watching him.   He has the suitcase full of money.   Jameson goes in and Doc Ock is there with Felicia still tied to the pillar.    So then Doc Ock asks him to open the suitcase.    He does and Doc Ock is pleased with all the cash in it.   But then he says he wants more and proceeds to pick up Jameson with one of his tentacles.    He ties him up to a pillar next to Felicia.    Then Spider-Man comes in and promptly gets beaten by Doc Ock who smashes him into a bunch of boxes and then throw him out a window.  He survives of course.

He then goes to the Bugle where Mrs. Hardy is.    She criticizes him as does Robbie who says maybe he was wrong about him.   Spidey comments that hurt him more than anything Doc Ock could do to him.   He then turns back into Peter Parker and goes to the Bugle where he convinces the FBI Agent who’s there to go deliver more ransom money.  He tells him he knew him and knows him better than the FBI agent does.

We then cut to Peter going to the same warehouse with the money.   He has a talk with Octavius and ends up getting shown the Fusion Battery.   Then Peter says to let them go and Doc Ock refuses.  Peter threatens him and Peter gets tossed out a window by him again.   He lands on some boxes outside.   Then he turns into Spider-Man and goes back in there.   He ends up getting caught in Doc Ock’s tentacles again but manages to get free by distracting Doc Ock by webbing his glasses.   A classic thing from the comics.   Anyway He gets free and then proceeds to try and turn on a nearby magnet which traps 2 of Doc Ock’s tentacles.   Unfortunately it also has turned on a test Rocket which will fry Jameson and Felicia if he doesn’t turn off the magnet.

Then Spidey has to free Ock by turning off the magnet though it doesn’t turn off the rocket.  I don’t know so don’t ask.   Then Spidey comes up with an idea to trap Ock on a giant magnet near the ceiling.   Doc Ock doesn’t fall for it so Spidey ends up grabbing his Fusion Battery and threatens to destroy it.   Doc Ock grabs it out of his hands but Spidey pushes the buttons and he is trapped.  He also saves Felicia and Jameson of course just in time to see the Rocket fire behind them as he swings down with them.

Then Felicia remembers Peter and goes running out of the warehouse.   Peter manages to get down there and dressed before she finds him as Spider-Man.    Then they agree they should go on another date.    Then we cut to Spider-Man in a prison with his tentacles all tied in metal boxes so he can’t escape.  He of course is saying he will escape and laughs manically.

Flashback to Peter’s childhood with Uncle Ben and knowing Doc Ock years ago as a kid.   Though that will not be mentioned again the rest of the series.

Next week we will get to one of my favorite stories.  The Venom Saga.   Also I reviewed these out of  release order.   Though I just looked up the original airing schedule and this did come after the 2nd Spider Slayers episode.   The Mysterio one actually aired after this one though.    Really seems out of whack.   Frankly this episode seems to take place right after the first Spider Slayers episode since Mary Jane isn’t mentioned at all.    Should’ve done more research before doing it this way.    Though like I said it did air right after the 2nd Spider Slayer which means Fox made a mistake back then.   Sorry for the inconvenience.   I hope if they ever release this cartoon in full on DVD/Bluray that they put it in the right order of continuity.

Spider-Man Episode 7 The Alien Costume Part 1

So this episode opens with an astronaut on the moon.   It’s said to be John Jameson who we saw a picture of in the Scorpion episode.   He is talking through a radio to his fellow Astronaut Jim Stevenson.   He is using a pick ax to chop at some rocks on the moon.    He then discovers an element which seems to start oozing a black liquid.   Then there’s an earthquake.   John quickly runs to his space ship and they take off to earth.

Then we cut to a TV news report where a reporter with a mustache talks about John Jameson and James Stevenson’s trip back to Earth that day.    Then it turns out Jameson, Peter, and Robbie Robertson are watching this report.   Peter says he must be proud.   Jameson says that he isn’t proud and is just his father.   Then Robbie says John is a good guy and he had something to do with that.

Then we cut to Allistar Smythe and Kingpin.   They are watching the report too which is now talking about this element mentioned earlier called Promethium X.    According to Wikipedia, Promethium is a real element that is radioactive which can be found in stones.   Kingpin obviously wants this thing.   We then cut to Eddie Brock who is in his car on a bridge stuck in a traffic jam.   He is complaining about how he has no job and is listening to the hottest story of the year about the astronauts.

Then right after this we cut back to John Jameson who suddenly starts screaming when a bunch of the black ooze starts covering his suit.   Jim starts talking to the people at NASA or whoever is in charge of their mission.   It then shows that they’re both on TV when this happens but it fades out.      Then we cut to Jameson rushing off to get on a helicopter though Robbie tells him they aren’t going to allow him to land anywhere near where his son’s shuttle might crash.    Peter thinks to himself he has a quicker way of getting there.

Then we see Kingpin warning Allistar  that the shuttle might crash into the building.   Allistar says that he’s keeping track on some kind of radar where the shuttle is heading and says that it will crash into the George Washington Bridge.   Which also happens to be the same bridge in the comics where Gwen Stacy was killed.   It then shows Jim controlling the shuttle and saying he has to make it to the river.

Then the Shuttle flies by Kingpin’s tower where Allistar says I told you so to Kingpin.   Kingpin then makes a phone call to the Rhino.    He tells him he has a job for him.   Then the Shuttle crashes into the bridge but manages to stay intact.   Spider-Man arrives and the Rhino shows up.   Eddie Brock is nearby and takes pictures of them both.   Spidey and the Rhino fight for a bit.  Rhino beats him up, takes the Promethium X from him, and leaves.  But Spidey puts a Spider Tracer on him right as he leaves.  Then Spidey rescues the astronauts.   He sets them on the ground.   Spider-Man sets them on the bridge.   Spider-Man then goes back into the shuttle because he hears someone else in there.   He finds nobody.   Then the shuttle starts losing balance and falls off the bridge into the river.

Then Jameson arrives.   He finds Eddie Brock who of course lies to him about what happened.  Says he saw Spider-Man stealing the Promethium X.   Jameson then says he is glad he can get Spider-Man for this.

Spidey survives the accident but has black stuff on him.  But then we go back to Kingpin’s headquarters where Rhino comes back with the Promethium X.   Allistar wants to examine it but Kingpin says he is selling it to someone.   Rhino comments that he doesn’t get what the big deal is cause it’s just a rock.  Then Kingpin says don’t confuse it for his brain while touching his horn.  Then we see Peter goes home and changes. Then he goes downstairs where Aunt May is watching TV news and tells him that Spider-Man stole the Promethium X from the Shuttle.   Peter is angry and then Jameson comes on and says he will offer $1million for anyone who brings in Spider-Man.

Peter then goes upstairs throws his Spider-Man suit angrily into the closet and goes to sleep.    Then it shows a bunch of black ooze coming off his costume and onto his bed.  He falls asleep and dreams about a giant black Spider-Man creature and a giant version of his costume fighting.   This is really cool and it comes from the comics.   Then they start grabbing him and the Black costume grabs him and swallows him.

Then he wakes up in a black costume hanging upside down from the building.    He is confused and tries to figure things out.   But before he can a helicopter flies by with some cops in it.   They start chasing after Spider-Man who jumps off the building he is on and grabs hold of the roof of a building across the street from it.   He comment that he was never able to jump that far before.  Then he starts shooting webbing out of his costume.    He swings to the streets but some construction workers end up trying to fight him.   He tosses them away.

Then he swings behind a nearby fire truck.    He lifts it like it’s nothing.    Then some cops on the streets spot him and he swings to the front of the fire truck and jumps behind a car in front of it.    He then says he wishes he could be less conspicuous and the costume immediately turns him into Peter Parker with a cops suit on.  The cops run by and start running past him.  Then he turns into his regular Peter Parker clothes.   He then comments he will keep this suit.

Then we cut to Empire State University where Spidey/Peter swings in and onto a building.  He starts switching clothes with the suit until he makes the suit turn into a nice dress suit.   He then jumps onto the ground where he meets Felicia who just now sees him there.  She says he looks different.   Peter comments she doesn’t know how different but maybe she’d like to find out.    But then Flash comes out and says for him to buzz off.   Peter says he won’t and then Flash comments that he has suddenly grown a backbone.    Peter grabs him and says he has more than just a backbone.   Then Felicia breaks up their fight and tells Peter he is different and it scares her.

Then Peter goes back home where he finds that his spider tracing device has picked up Rhino.   He finds him at a government facility where he gets some rods they need for an experiment with the Promethium X in order to sell it to the clients.   I didn’t mention that part cause I am in a hurry to finish this up.   So he and Spidey fight until Spidey picks him up and slams his body horn first into the ground.  He starts spinning him around and around.   Rhino refuses to talk but says he will go to jail.   But then Spidey web grabs a steel door Rhino tore off the building and tells he’s through not getting what he wants.   He then is about to use the door to beat him to death.   He then thinks about an outburst he had with Aunt May earlier when she told him not to go take pictures of Spider-Man and the scene with Felica Hardy earlier.    He then drops the door and leaves.   Rhino suddenly realizes he’s gone and gets what he wanted.    The episode ends with Peter wondering why he did something that he would’ve regretted the rest of his wife and trying to decide what to do to get help about this new costume.

Spider-Man Episode 8 The Alien Costume Part 2

This episode starts with Spider-Man swinging in his symbiote suit with helicopters and people chasing after him.   He fights with these people on the ground til one of them shoots him with a sonic blaster which seems to put him down til the symbiote puts a piece of itself onto a ledge up above.   Then a piece of the suit falls down and lands inside the sonic blaster that he’s getting shot with.   Everyone is shocked at this.    They keep trying to shoot him but then he throws a nearby poll hanging off the side of the building at a fire hydrant and that causes them all to get distracted enough for him to escape.

The next scene involves the Kingpin showing off the Promethium X to these 2 thugs he plans to sell it to.    They put a tiny piece of the rock onto this big device that shoots radiation and makes the room fill with smoke.   One of the thugs comment it could destroy the whole planet.

Spider-Man goes to the Bugle and confronts Eddie Brock in front of Jameson who presses a security button.   He tells him there was a guy in a Rhino suit who stole the promethium x and he knows he saw it.   Then security comes in and Spider-Man jumps out the window to swing away.

Next we see Spider-Man coming to Dr. Connors office at ESU so he can analyze the suit.   He hesitates to help him since he’s a wanted man until Spider-Man points out he helped him once when he was a giant Lizard.   So Dr. Connors cuts off a piece of the suit and analizes it under a microscope.   He says it’s a living being.   He decides to put the small piece of it onto a plate with some kind of low level life form that looks like a big red splot.   Anyway, he says it’s taking over the organism.   He tells him this thing is a symbiote which thrives from bonding with someone.   He then tells him he’s got to get it off him.  But Spider-Man says no and rushes off with Dr. Connors yelling at him once more to get rid of it.

Then we see Jameson at the hospital with his son.   His son says in his sleep (though his eyes are open) that the element was stolen by a guy  in a Rhino suit.   Next we see him at the Bugle where he confronts Brock with what his son told him and he admits that it was just a guy in a bad Halloween costume.   Jameson then fires him and calls security to throw him out.

Then we see Jameson on a TV that Kingpin and Allistar Smythe are watching saying he’s withdrawing his reward for Spider-Man because of finding out Eddie Brock lied about what happened.    Kingpin says they have to find the Eddie Brock and make sure he doesn’t tell the authorites the story about Rhino.   Allistar says he has a guy and a device to confront him.

Next we see Eddie Brock walking up to his apartment.  He is complaining about how Spider-Man has taken away his job, his job, and then upon seeing an eviction notice on his door says he also taken away his apartment.    Yeah.  No he didn’t.  You lied about what happened and now you are the one at fault.   Actually now thinking about it I am convinced this cartoon is where Raimi got the idea of his version of  Eddie Brock in Spider-Man 3  from.

Spider-Man then is shown breaking into Brock’s apartment to find the film reel with pictures of Rhino he hid.  He finds them in his shower sprayer.   Seems a funny but good place to hide them.    He takes the film and inserts it into his symbiote suit.   Since it thrives off organic material I guess we don’t have to worry about them getting absorbed into it.

Then Spider-Man hears some guy threatening Eddie Brock.   He goes up to him and starts fighting him.  It’s the Shocker.     While they’re fighting Eddie Brock rushes off.   Then Spider-Man gets defeated briefly when Shocker knocks a part of the wall of the apartment onto him.

Spider-Man of course is okay and ends up chasing after Shocker.   Shocker goes into an apartment building and seems to disappear inside.  Then Spidey comes across a wooden door that opens revealing a metal door with a padlock on it.  Spider-Man then decides to crawl into an air vent where he comes onto the room where Shocker and Allistar Smythe are.   Allistar Smythe are.   He briefly fights Shocker and then takes the Promethium X from Allistar.    Then he escapes.

Next we see Spidey going to his aunt may’s house and using some fancy microscope hooked up to a computer monitor and uses it to examine the Promethium X which he eventually finds some glowing yellow light inside of.   Peter says, “Well what do you know!”We’ll find out what it means at the end of the episode

Next we see Kingpin coming  up to where Shocker and Allistar Smythe are.   They tell him Spider-Man ran off with the Promethium X.  He tells them they have to get it back even if they have to take the whole city hostage.

We then cut to John Jameson’s hospital room where he’s kidnapped by Shocker.   Then we see Jameosn enter the room later on where Shocker greets him and tells him he’s kidnapped his son.  Then we see Peter watching a news report of Jameson saying if Spider-Man’s out there they need him to return the Promethium X or his son will die.   Spider-Man/Peter comments that he’s going to rescue John but not because Jameson told him so.

Next we cut to Eddie Brock who has followed Jameson to where he’s meeting Smythe.   Spider-Man swings in too and Eddie Brock comments that he knew Jameson would go behind his back.   Of course that’s not exactly what’s happening but whatever.   So Spider-Man gives Smythe back the Promethium X after he shows him John in his wheelchair on Jameson’s request.  But then Shocker comes up and Spider-Man fights him away from John.   Jameon takes John away and then we get to where Shocker escapes Spider-Man.  And now for your hearing and viewing pleasure Christopher Daniel Barnes over acting.

After Eddie Brock tries to fight Spider-Man with some midevil weapon nearby (what the heck was it doing there?) he takes care of him by webbing him up and hanging him up over the tower below a bell.   Then he continues fighting Shocker until he swings a pillar at Shocker’s hands which damages Shocker’s gloves which give him his power.   Shocker says he will pay for this to which Spidey says, “Check’s in the mail, baby!” which is funny.

Then Spider-Man picks him up and forces him off the edge of a ledge nearby.   He threatens to kill him.  Shocker says he can’t do this cause he’s supposed to be the good guy.   Spider-Man then thinks, “Why not?  I have the power.”  Then he remembers his Uncle Ben always telling him, “With Great Power comes great responsibility.   Then suddenly the actual symbiote uses part of itself to push Shocker off the edge.   Spider-Man webs Shock before he hits the ground.   He asks himself what the symbiote is doing.   Then for some reason a bell nearby starts ringing.   It makes Spider-Man feel weak and he realizes and remembers earlier when the sonic blaster made him feel weak.   He then goes up to the bell and the symbiote gets off him.   It seems to fall past the bell.

Then we cut to Smyhe with Kingpin and the 2 criminals they’re selling the Promethium X to.   And…you know, why didn’t he sell them the material earlier when they tested it in front of them?     Did they really not come with any money to buy it the first time?   Anyway, the criminals insist they once again need proof of how dangerous it is.   But then when they shoot it with radiation it does nothing.   The Criminals ask what they’re trying to pull.   Then we cut to Smythe examining it and finding out that the whole thing has turned into lead.   He realizes now the radioactive life in it must be only days.   Kingpin asks why he didn’t tell him this and he says basically he didn’t know cause he didn’t give him a chance to study it.   The Criminals are upset at this and leave.

Next we cut to Eddie Brock getting covered up by the symbiote.   Then we see him escape the tower where he finds a newspaper with Spider-Man in the headline.  Venom says, “Spider-Man!  Enjoy your fame while it lasts!”   Then the episode ends.    I think I will go head and write the next one.

Spider-Man episode 9 The Alien Costume part 3

So the episode starts off with Eddie Brock benchpressing  and complaining about Spider-Man.  There’s flashbacks to all the events we already covered.   Then he sets the bar weights where it goes up top and he gets up.   He turns into Venom while staring at pictures of Spider-Man.   He says, “Now we are one and now you’re gonna pay!  From now on we are poison to you Spider-Man.  That’s why we call ourselves Venom!”

Then we see Spider-Man in his red costume gleefully talking about how he is glad to be in his old costume and comments on the full moon being perfect for his date that night with Mary Jane.   So…now we are going from him seeming to want to be with Felicia in the first story arc of this episode and now he’s dating MJ?     Ugh.   They really didn’t do a good job with continuity here in the first season.   From what I remember the second season has better continuity between episodes.

Anyway, he swings through town til he comes across Rhino and Shocker on a rooftop.   They actually manage to defeat him briefly but then this other figure comes in and takes them out by webbing them together.   It’s Venom but he turns into Eddie Brock and grabs Spider-Man’s arm.   Spider-Man is confused and asks how he got up there.   Then he calls him Peter Parker.   Then he turns into Venom and he looks awesome!

He grabs him and then Spidey fights him a bit and Venom starts swinging away.  Spidey tries to get after him and swings onto a tower he is on.   Spidey tries telling Brock that the symbiote is controlling him and he needs to separate from it.    Venom then says, “Separate!   We were made for each other!  Brock’s rage and vengefulness made him a perfect breeding ground.    Think of what you’ve turned down Parker.   All this knowledge!   Millions of civilizations!  And always with but one goal above all else!   To survive!   And now we are sharing those secrets with Eddie Brock!     We’re very happy together!”     Then he swings off.   Spider-Man tries to think of a plan to defeat him.

Next we see Peter at the bugle with Jameson wheeling in his son in his wheelchair.   They say they are launching a probe into space and naming it after him.   John says it’s fine as long as he can shake the memory of the crash and the black alien ooze.   Jameson insists that was a dream and it’ll go away.   Peter then thinks that ooze isn’t a dream.   It’s his worst nightmare.   Then we see him going into an office where Robbie comes in and tells him he’s got the clippings on Brock and Peter just says it’s for a school project.   He then calls Atlas equipment where he says he’s Eddie Brock and needs to double check the address he sent his weights to.

Then he goes to the roof of the Bugle to change into Spidey and before he gets his mask on Eddie Brock is on the wall of a nearby building and asks what he thinks people would do if they knew who Spider-Man was.   Then he threatens to tell Jameson that.   Then he turns into his Venom form.   They fight for a bit and then Eddie Brock is able to grab him, lift him   up, snag him in webs,  and take his mask off. He throws it off the roof to the ground below.

We see  a guy on the street find the mask and mess around with it by putting it on his head.   Jameson is there and steals a video camera away from a news camera man.   He can’t focus in on Peter’s face.   But then back to Peter he uses a wooden stick that is conencted to the building to cut through the webbing and escape.  Then he takes a piece of fabric he finds on a curtain outside the building and puts it on his face then he swings away.

We then see him go to meet MJ at a theater but then they run into Eddie Brock.   He grabs Mary Jane and insists they need to leave.  She objects for quite a bit all the way.  At one point he looks a sign and sees Venom up there.   Then they go down into a subway and leave.    Mary Jane is really upset at Peter until he asks her if she trusts him and she says yes.   Then he tells her to just do what he says and not asks questions.

Then we see him go home where Aunt May asks him how his date with MJ went.  He says they had to leave.   She asks him why.   Before he can answer the door bell rings.   It’s Eddie Brock.  Aunt May comes in the room to see who it is.  Eddie Brock introduces himself as a good freind of Peter’s.   Then they go outside to talk where he once again turns into Venom after Peter tells him to stay away from her and MJ.   Then after a bit of fighting Venom leaves.

Then we cut to Eddie Brock/Venom going home where there is now newspaper clippings of him getting fired.   Spider-Man shows up and asks, “Like how I decorated your new place?”   He says, “How dare you!”   Then Venom chases after him.  They end up coming onto an overpass where Spidey manages to escape Venom by jumping onto a train.   Venom doesn’t get to the train in time.  But then he goes and steals a big huge semi truck. So he drives the truck to where the train is and is able to park it quickly and get onto the train.   Then Spidey jumps off the train to where the grounds to where they are launching the John Jameson probe.  There is a brief cut to inside the space center where John Jameson is getting congratulated for having the probe named after him.   All the people there clap.

Then we have Spidey running away from Venom.  They climb to the top of a tower.     Right after they get to this platform they happen to launch the probe then and they’re right next to it.  The noise of the rocket forces the smybiote off Brock.  Spider-Man then webs up the symbiote and webs it to the probe before it takes off.   Spider-Man escapes but then some security personel come out and find Eddie Brock who no doubt gets arrested for trespassing on federal property.

Then Spider-Man is going home and says he is glad he was able to defeat Venom.   Then we cut to him and Mary Jane sitting on a park bench.    Mary Jane is talking and Peter is not listening til Mary Jane notices and asks him if he was listening to her.  He says he’s sorry and she says looking at the full moon on a night like this makes you think maybe we aren’t alone.   Then Peter says he agrees.   We then see Venom on the moon.   That’s the end of the episode.   Next week I’ve decided to do the 2 parter Hob Goblin episode.  See you then.

Episodes 10 and 11 The Hobgoblin parts 1 and 2

Before I start I actually want to state a fact about this episode.   The Hobgoblin was forced into this show against the head writer John Semper’s will.   The toy company Toy Biz decided to make a Hobgoblin figure to go with the show without actually consulting anyone involved in the show.   Because of this John Semper was forced into having to do Hobgoblin before Green Goblin.   And he hated that.    Because of that John Semper hates these 2 episodes the most out of any other episodes on the show.    Frankly I disagree.    There is a later episode towards the end of this series that I thoroughly hate though we won’t get to it for a while.    Also if you want to see Hobgoblin in a cartoon this is the only option since he’s never been in another one.

Anyway the episode begins with the mysterious man above putting on a goblin mask.     We won’t find out who he is until a lot later in the show.   Anyway, then he gets on a glider and it shows his goblin face and he laughs an evil laugh.  Just FYI the Hobgoblin is voiced by Mark Hamill who previously voiced Joker.   His Hobgoblin voice sounds similar to his Joker voice.

Next we see Harry and Peter walking down the street.   Harry is asking Peter if he will agree to live with him in an apartment and tells him that his Dad will pay for it.   But his Dad will only let him live there if he has a responsible room mate and if he gives him the okay the event they’re going to.   Which is a construction site of a school of criminology by Wilson Fisk/Kingpin.   Though everyone only knows him as a philanthropist.

Well Peter says yes and Harry is happy about it.   Then the event is starting and Jameson is there hoping Peter will show up to take pictures.   Peter does take pictures.   Norman Osborn is the first to go up and talk and then introduces Wilson Fisk.    But before he can say much the Hobgoblin shows up.   Peter’s Spider Sense goes off and he manages to push Fisk out of the way before Hobgoblin’s weapon hits him.   Hobgoblin comments, “Blasted kid!”   Peter then turns into Spider-Man.

Spider-Man ends up swinging in to stop Hobgoblin.   After dodging a few pumpkin bombs and being unsuccessful, Spidey shoots a webline onto the Hobgoblin’s glider.  Hobgoblin asks him how he likes the flight.   To which Spidey says, “Some flight!  No peanuts!   No Stallone movie!   I’m out of here!”   I wanted to mention that because like I said before parents groups demanded this show be very censored yet they allow mention of an actor who is mostly in rated R action films where he blows the crap out of people.

Anyway but then Hobgoblin manages to throw a razor disc at his web line and he falls.   He tries using his webbing but realizes his webshooters are empty.   So keeps falling rapidly til coming onto a window washer on an elevator.  He tries to grab the elevator but grabs a vulnerable part of it.   So he keeps falling til he comes onto a clothes line and uses it to break his fall just before hitting a fence.

Then we cut to Hobgoblin with Norman Osborn who is furious that he didn’t take out Fisk.   He also tells him he’s fired.    Hobgoblin gets mad and tells him he can’t treat him like some punk.   Norman points out he was a punk before he made him the Hobgoblin.   He also mentions that if he tries telling someone about their connection he will expose his secret identity.   Then Hobgoblin flies off.

Anyway, we then cut to Peter at home with Aunt May.   He is asking her if he can move in with Harry.   She says yes and also mentions that Mary Jane’s Aunt invited her to live in her house cause Mary Jane is moving out too.

We then cut to Hobgoblin visiting Kingpin’s headquarters.  He breaks in and then finds a secret passage behind a painting which opens an elevator.  But then the elevator has a large grappling hook which captures him.   He then meets a bunch of men with guns (the exact same ones from the Spider Slayer episode).      Kingpin threatens him but Hobgoblin just laughs and is happy that there’s a crimelord that controls all crime on the planet.   He then suggests to Kingpin that he work for him.   He then also mentions Norman Osborn was the one who hired him to kill him (after Kingpin asks him).     Kingpin then tells him to kidnap Harry.

Then we cut to Peter moving into his new place with Mary Jane escorting him to the door of the apartment.   Flash answers the door and insults Peter.   And there is a huge party going on.  But Harry is there and tells him he shouldn’t do that cause he’s living there now.      Peter is shown his room and is glad there’s a skylight so he can go in and out easily as Spider-Man without being seen.

Then Peter wakes up and is told by a guard on the first floor that Aunt May is coming up.   The apartment is a mess and Peter is all worried about her seeing the mess.  Harry doesn’t think it’s a big deal.    Then before he can really clean up Aunt May shows up and says, “What on Earth?”    But before anything else happens Hobgoblin comes in and kidnaps Harry.  He sees Peter and recognizes him from earlier.  He says, “What do you know?   I’ve killed 2 birds with one stone!”    Then flies off.   Peter goes to Aunt May who has fallen ill (what a shock) and he quickly calls an ambulance.

We then cut to Hobgoblin throwing Harry who is blind folded into a glass container.  He asks Hobgoblin why he’s kidnapped him and Hobgoblin just says, “Your Dad’s loaded.  You have to ask?”   Kingpin congratulates him.   Then Hobgoblin asks when he’ll get paid.   Kingpin just says he won’t get paid til he says so.   Hobgoblin gets mad and leaves him.

Then we cut to Peter at the hospital where Aunt May is in a coma and the doctor is explaining that to Peter and says they can only give her time to get out of it.   Mary Jane is there and Peter tells her this was all his fault.   Mary Jane tells him it’s not and that Hobgoblin is only attacking people at random.   He says he wanted him but then thinks to himself that maybe he didn’t and remembers him saying 2 birds with one stone.   Then Peter leaves.

Next we cut to Norman Osborn getting a message from Kingpin who shows him via phone video on a screen that his son has been kidnapped.   Then Hob Goblin also appears and tells him he’s working for Kingpin.    Then it cuts back to Kingpin.   He tells him he has to give him his whole company or his son will die.

Then we have Hobgoblin show up to talk to Norman.   Norman is angry at him but then Hobgoblin convinces him he wants to help him take Fisk down again.   Then asks for a bigger and better glider.   Norman pushes a button on a console he has and a door opens up in the wall.   There is a glider and Norman tells him it’s twice as big as his old glider and has a lot more weaponry including Smart bombs.

Meanwhile Peter comes up to Oscorp but the guard there says he can’t come in.   Then Peter crawls in anyway and hears the Hobgoblin laugh.   He recognizes it and immediately switches to Spider-Man.   Then Hobgoblin starts throwing bombs at Spider-Man and Spider-Man of course dodges them.   Then Spider-Man is chased into a building by Hobgoblin and has the smart Pumpkin bombs going into the building after him.   Then this would be where the episode ends.

Well the 2nd Episode starts off directly from where the first started.   He runs out of the building and then ends up jumping into a garbage truck where Hobgoblin throws a bomb in it.   It blows up the garbage truck and it seems Spidey is dead.   One civilian says, “Who’s gonna pay for all this!?”   Nobody ever thinks of that when reading a comic do they?   I remember reading a Spider-Man novel recently with Lizard where a guy’s insurance company wouldn’t help pay for the damage the Lizard did to his store because of the fact most of the Supervillains in Marvel only live in New York and the story took place in Florida.

Anyway, it turns out Spider-Man of course dodged the explosion and now he’s in the sewer right below the firey garbage ruck.    Then the fire department shows up and puts the fire out that’s on the car.   The water goes right onto Spidey.   Then Spidey webswings to Oscorp to confront Norman Osborn.   He sneaks right into his office because he is distracted by a TV which is telling the news of Spider-Man’s and Hobgoblin’s fight that just happened.   The media is really efficient in this version of the Marvel Universe isn’t it?

Anyway, He goes and confronts Norman who tells him he had to trust  Hobgoblin or he’d lose everything he has ever worked for.  He said he and Hobgoblin will meet at Midnight.   Spider-Man says he’ll be there 1 minute after just to be sure.   Then we cut to Hobgoblin who has come into Kingpin’s headquarters.   I forgot to mention this but one of those spider slayer satellite things I mentioned in a previous episode caught the conversation with Hobgoblin and Norman.

Kingpin reveals that he knows about what he just did with Osborn.   But then Hobgoblin summons his giant glider and starts using to blow the crud out of Kingpin’s men and everything in the room.   Smythe is there too and tells Kingpin they must get out of there.  Kingpin reluctantly agrees.   Hobgoblin is very happy that he’s conquered the Kingpin’s building so he releases Harry who asks if his Dad’s paid the ransom.   Hobgoblin says he now controls things there and that his Dad will pay up and the he is the way he’s going to get it.

Then we cut to Norman who gets  a video call from Hobgoblin who says that he took out the Kingpin.   Then reveals he’s taken over the Kingpin’s job.    Then tells him to give him his whole company but Norman says no.  Til Harry is shown to him and Norman agrees to do it.

Right after that Kingpin and Allistar Smythe come in.   Kingpin comes up to him and points out that it’s ironic that this whole thing started cause he double crossed him and now the Hobgoblin is double crossing him.   Norman gets angry and grabs Allistar Smythe and accuses them both of trying to bleed his company dry and gave him no choice.   So then Kingpin asks him if he has any ideas on how to beat the Hobgoblin.   He also then tells him about the secret entrance to his headquarters that they used to escape.   He says if someone used it they could sneak up on Hobgoblin and take him out.  Norman says he has someone.

So then we cut to Spider-Man arriving some time after the meeting with Kingpin.   Norman tells him he was right and that he never should’ve trusted Hobgoblin.   So he  tells him where to go to get to the secret passage into the Kingpin’s headquarters where Hobgoblin is.   So he swings off to do that.

We cut to him and Norman outside the Kingpin’s headquarters.   Norman shows him the building and tells him where the secret passage is.   He tells him he’ll be back to confront him after he gets Harry.   So then we cut to Kingpin and Allistar as they’re in a helicopter with Norman above the old headquarters.   Kingpin says his plan to use Spider-Man is brilliant.

So then we cut to Spider-Man going through the sewer tunnel into the building through an elevator.   Spider-Man kicks open a door and there is Hobgoblin who is talking to people wanting to get rid of some mines.   He finds a buyer.   Then Spider-Man weblines his Glider and makes it fall.  He goes up to it and sees the webbing.  He is confused how Spider-Man got there.   Then he and Hobgoblin start fighting with Hobgoblin starting to throw bombs and razor bats in every direction Spider-Man leaps to.  Then the building catches fire and Hobgoblin complains about how he’s lost everything.   Spider-Man then asks where Harry is.   Hobgoblin throws a razor at the big glass cage suspended to the ceiling and the cage starts falling.     Spider-Man catches it grabs Harry and runs to the elevator he took.

But Kingpin and   Allistar Smythe are controlling things and they cause the elevator to detach form the cable at the top.  Spider-Man of course jumps up top and uses his webbing to grab the cable uptop.  He then makes it into the tunnel and Kingpin tells Allistar to blow the place sky high.   Thankfully Spider-Man escapes.

Then we cut back to Kingpin and Allistar who complains he’s lost his headquarters.  Kingpin says they haven’t lost it and will rebuild better than before.   Then we cut to Spider-Man with Harry and Norman.   Spider-Man confronts Norman with what he did and tells him he doesn’t care about his son.
Norman then reveals that he does care about his son and is sorry he had to miss so many things in his life because of his work at Oscorp.   But he says he does care about him.  He also admits he may have made the wrong choices.   Then Hobgoblin shows up and throws a bomb at them.   It knocks down a book shelf  but Spider-Man catches it before it can hurt Norman or Harry.

Image result for Hobgoblin Spider-Man The animated series.
Then Spider-Man goes out through the skylight and goes after Hobgoblin who chases after him once more on his glider.   There is a smokestack nearby that Spidey goes to to make Hobgoblin crash into it.   After that Hobgoblin screams in fear and makes this face above.   He then crashes into the river nearby.

Then we cut to Peter with Aunt May and Mary Jane.  The doctor is there too and asks where he’s been.   He says he had to take care of something.   The doctor comments, “More important than this?   That’s what’s wrong with you kids today.   You just can’t make the right choices!”  Then he leaves.   Aunt May then wakes up.   Aunt May says it was such a shock.   Then Peter tells her not to worry cause the Hogoblin is gone now.   But then Aunt May says she doesn’t know what he’s talking about.   She said his apartment was too messy.  Then she says he may not be ready to live on his own yet.   Then Aunt May goes to sleep and Peter looks out the window at the moon.   We then see a close up of Hobgoblin flying into the moon with him saying, “We’ll meet again Spider-Man.”   I guess this is a tease that he will be back at some point.  I don’t know.

I have 2 episodes left to review.   I will do the Kraven episode next week and the last episode about the Chameleon the week after.   Until then, toodles!

Episode 12 Kraven the Hunter

I apologize for not getting tot his sooner.   Been busy lately.   This is one of the few times where I think this cartoon did a character better than the comic.   In the comics Kraven is just a poacher who wants to kill Spider-Man so he can put his mask on his wall next to a bunch of other animals he has in his collection.    Here he is a nice man who loves animals who unfortunately ends up in a terrible accident which makes him go nuts and want to hurt people.    Anyway, on with the episode.

Anyway the episode starts off with a the woman above getting kidnapped by this man in the picture above.      Peter then shows up for an interview for a job and of course the place he’s at belongs to the Hardy Foundation.  Peter hears the woman scream and the guy yelling and turns into Spider-Man.   He then jumps in and tries tackling the guy but he easily manges to escape through a nearby fire escape.   Spidey chases him to the roof of the building.   The woman follows them too.  They fight for a bit until Kraven ends up falling off.  The woman comes up to Spider-Man and says she is Mariah Crawford.   She then reveals who the man was.   His name was Sergeigh Kravenoff.

Image result for . Dr. Mariah Crawford Spider-Man

He was an animal hunter in Africa until it was outlawed and he became a tour guide.   He is also of Russian nobility.   Anyway, they both went on a trip to find a colleague  of hers named James Reeves.   On this trip they fell in love.  They found their colleague (he is the one in the picture above).   He had created a serum that could give one the strength of an animal but it had turned him wild.  Even in his wild state he gave them the serum.  But he warned them not to use it unless they found a way to perfect it.

But months later Kraven was attacked by Lions  and was dying. She gave him the serum and he seemed to get better until he went mad just like Reeve.   Then that brings us to now.   Anyway, Spider-Man takes her to an apartment of a friend of his.  This friend happens to be Robbie Robertson.   Mariah hears him come in but gets scared and runs off.   She leaves one of her notes on the formula behind.

Robbie comes in and checks his answering machine.    Jonah has left a message talking about some case he needs him to cover.   Then right after that Kraven shows up.   He accuses Robbie of harboring Mariah.   He then finds the note she left.   He then kidnaps Robbie.

We then cut to Peter at his Aunt May’s house where he is telling Aunt May he’s going to the Animal in me Fashion show.   Aunt May mistakenly thinks he’s going to an animal exhibit.   He goes to the show and sees MJ behind the curtain.   She asks him if he’d like to hang out with her later and he says yes.   Then he goes to the auditorium where he meets Felicia who also asks him on a date.   Before he can answer Felicia says she has to go.

Then after the show starts and Mary Jane comes out in a Cheetah garb Kraven shows up.   And everyone in the audience thinks he’s part of the show.   One person says he’s the guy from cats.  He comes  onto the stage and asks Spider-Man to come forward.   Peter then runs off to turn into Spider-Man.   Mary Jane sees him running off.   She is upset and complains about it.

Then Spider-Man shows up and shouts from a window up high that he is here.   Kraven runs after him.  They fight for a bit on a nearby building.   But then Kraven falls off.  Spider-Man grabs his hand.  He reveals he’s kidnapped Robbie.    He says he’s going where a beast can hunt another beast.    Then leaves.   Spider-Man tries to figure this out.   Then he sees a bus with an ad for the New York City Zoo.   He decides that’s where Kraven is going.

We then cut to Kraven who has put Robbie in a cage.   He gives him a canteen of water.   Robbie asks why he’s doing it and of course just says because he’s the ultimate hunter.   Then we see Mariah who is giving a dose of the serum she has been working on to a mouse and it heals him.   She then smiles.

Spider-Man shows up and then fights with Kraven a bit.   Then Mariah comes in and sets off a trap Kraven had set for Spider-Man.   This causes the cage these nearby lions are in to open.    Kraven yells, “Nooo!”  then starts fighting a bit with the lions.   Spider-Man takes this time to free Robbie from a nearby pool of Alligators.   He does so.   He tells Robbie he is sorry for getting him into this.

Then Spidey goes up to where the lions are.    He and Kraven get them back into the cage but Kraven has been pretty badly wounded.   Mariah gives him the serum to cure him.   Then we cut to Spider-Man at the boat docks saying good bye to them both.   He comments though that he wishes he could find a woman in his life.

Spider-Man Episode 13 Day of the Chameleon

Image result for Spider-Man Day of the Chameleon SHield agents

This episode starts off pretty suddenly.   A man walks off a plane and right when he does this woman and some other people point guns at him and tell him not to move!     He knocks someone down and escapes.   He comes across a helicopter pilot.   He knocks him out and then turns into him.   He walks into a building and to the roof of it.   He then throws a guy out of the helicopter up there and starts flying away in the helicopter.   He then is chased by the people from the airport who are in helicopters.   Then he crashes the helicopter into a building.

There is a window washer in an elevator that falls off when this happens.   But Spider-Man swoops down and catches him.  He then goes to the helicopter and pulls the guy out of there.   He then brings him down to safety.   But then the helicopter falls out of the hole in the building and starts falling.   Spidey swings up and webs up the helicopter in a net above the building.

Then the guy who Spidey saves runs into an alley changing into a guy that passed by him on the way.   We then cut to Peter at the Bugle begging Jameson to let him photograph a peace treaty between 2 countries who are having it that night.   Jameson says no and starts rushing off to the elevator.  But Peter jumps into the elevator just in time.   Jameson hears him out and says to come with him in his limo.   He says he will get him a tux for the occasion.

But then when they exit and get into said Limo they both suddenly get strapped by metal straps.   Then the limo starts flying in the air.   The driver tries telling Jameson to calm down but Jameson keeps going on about how he’ll have him thrown in jail.  Peter just remain silent “unlike Mr. Calm over there.”   Peter ends up in a metal room with no furniture while Jameson gets taken away by the Agent.   Peter though crawls onto the walls and goes through an airvent.   He spies on a room where Jameson is.

Image result for Spider-Man Day of the Chameleon Nick Fury

Jameson is shown talking to the guy above who is Nick Fury.  For those who don’t know, Nick Fury was originally like this in the comics.   Later they created some new alternate Universe called Ultimate in the comics and created a version of him that looked like Samuel L. Jackson.  They had gotten Samuel L. Jackson’s permission to use his image so he could have the opition to play him in a movie.
Anyway, Jameson is surprised since he thought he was dead.  Fury then mentions that he published his picture wrong and put the eye patch on the wrong eye.  Fury reveals the Chameleon shown above in an image projected by Fury is planning to kill both leaders at the Peace Summit that night.   He says he can’t reveal this to anyone and that he will give him a device that will summon Shield Agents to his location if he sees anything weird.

Image result for Spider-Man the animated series Gloria Grant

So Peter after hearing this conversation goes back to where he was.   He asks Jameson what this was about and he says he can’t tell him cause it’s to do with national security.   They end up going back to the Bugle.  But before they enter his office the Chameleon is there in the disguise of Jameson.   We are introduced to Jameson’s secretary Gloria Grant (shown above).   They couldn’t use the character Betty Brant you’d know from the Raimi films because of James Cameron’s Spider-Man film that never got made.   We’ll get more to that in a later episode.

Anyway Chameleon in said disguise going up to her and asking for the files on who all is going to be at the peace treaty that night.   She tells him angrily that she put them in his brief case.   Then Chameleon yells at her to do that now.   Then he goes into Jameson’s office where he is seen going through Bugle files and taking a picture on his belt of every employee there so he can impersonate them.   That’s how his powers work here.   In the comics he just had this magical make up that made him look like people.  He also takes a picture of Fury’s picture from his obituary.

Then Jameson and Peter come into his office.   They find the Chameleon disguised as Robbie Robertson.   Jameson tells Robbie/Chameleon that he needs to speak with him right away.  But Chameleon tells him he has to go and he’ll be right back.  He is also shown holding Jameson’s briefcase.  Just after that Gloria Grant comes in and gives Jameson the files.   Jameson says she already gave them to him.  Then she gets mad and storms off.  Then Jameson realizes that his brief case is missing.  He realizes Chameleon was just here disguised as Robbie.  He taps on the device he’s wearing that informs Shield Agents.  ePeter sneaks off and changes to Spider-Man.    A Shield agent sees Spider-Man and tells Nick Fury.  It then shows Nick Fury asking himself what’s Spider-Man doing there.

Then some Shield Agents along with the red haired one from earlier find the real Robbie Robertson.   They tackle him.  But then the red haired one sees he’s got the belt the Chameleon has.    They fan out.

Then Chameleon walks off and changes into Gloria Grant.  An Agent runs into him and sees his belt.  Spider-Man pursues  He goes after him in a stairwell and grabs him.  But he sprays a gas in his face and Spidey lets go of him.   Then we see him turn into Peter Parker.   He goes down an Elevator to the ground floor when Mary Jane walks in and sees him.  She greets him and asks him to come to a play of hers that night.  Then he kisses her.   Mary  Jane asks why he did that.   And he replies with, “I had to.  I guessed Peter Parker was the luckiest guy ever!”   Then he walks off.

Then it cuts to the leaders of the peace treaty coming in and Nick Fury tells everyone it’s showtime.   We then see Chameleon in full ninja gear hanggliding into the building where the Peace Treaty party is.  The red Haired Agent sees him go in from a helicopter she is in.Then Spider-Man shows up.   He confronts him but he once again sprays gas on him from a weapon.  Then Spider-Man comes after him but then he changes to the red haired agent.  He tell some Shield agents who have run up that the Chameleon has taken the form of Spider-Man.    Spidey webs them all up. Then The red haired agent gets a call from Nick Fury who says he’s coming in.  We then see Chameleon go into a utility closet and knock a guy out.  He turn off the gas valve to the building to cause a distraction.   A utility guy is sent to check on it.  He gets gassed by the Chameleon in the closet who takes his form.  Peter is at the Party with his camera and takes his pictures.   Then his Spider Sense goes off but because of the crowd he can’t detect where it’s coming from.   We see it’s the Chameleon in the form of the utility guy.

Then he switches to Spider-Man.  He goes to the roof cause he sees Fury there along with everyone else from Shield.   Jameson is there too.    Spidey comes up to the roof and sees Nick Fury.  But then he realizes it’s the Chameleon cause his patch is on the wrong eye.   He attacks him and of course everyone tries to tackle and arrest him.  They put him in cuffs.  But then the red haired agent gets a call from Nick Fury on the radio.   Then Chameleon steals a helicopter on the roof but they all shoot it down and it crashes into the river.

Jameosn ask how the Chamelon could be so stupid.   He says it’s because of the negative photo in his files at the Bugle which the Chameleon used.   Then makes a joke about how Jameson practices Shoddy Journalism.   He then swings off to go find Chameleon.   Next we cut to the actual Peace treaty.  Jameson is sitting  when Peter Parker comes in with a camera and sits next to him.   But it’s actually the Chameleon.   Just before he can use his weapon disguised as a camera Spider-Man comes in and surprises Chameleon who misses his shot at the leaders.
Then Spider-Man gets into a fight with him til Spider-Man smashes Chameleon’s belt.  This causes Chameleon to start turning into everyone he has turned into this episode.   I know they got this idea from the end of Terminator 2.   Anyway Jameson is shocked that Chameleon was sitting right beside him and says he needs a vacation.

Then we cut to Peter the next day at his Aunt May’s.   The door bell rings and Peter answers it.  It’s Mary Jane.   She slaps Peter in the face and tells him that’s for not coming to her play then says not to kiss her again.  She walks off and Peter runs after her trying to explain.  Then the episode ends.   That would suck!   Imagine someone impersonating you then doing that to your girlfriend without you knowing.   Anyway great episode.  The ending fight with Chameleon turning into everyone was awesome by the way.
